Meet Our Northwoods Snowshoe Furniture

Like any trade, our woodshop has received many requests and product suggestions over the years. From time to time we test some prototypes and play with processes to make unique and useful lifetime items. This was how our new furniture line from Northern Toboggan Co was born.

Using the same materials and similar processes as making our snowshoes, the Northwoods Furniture collection is made to last for many years.

As with everything that comes from our woodshop, they are made by hand from northern hardwood. For the lacing we contract with our local pro, Kathy, who accomplishes this feat using the same proven and durable nylon before handing the product back to the shop to apply a finish with several coats of exterior polyurethane.

We didn't invent the chair or even the snowshoe laced chair, for that matter. Making handmade outdoor furniture is a craft inspired from the makers who came before us, and refined with our own blood, sweat and tears.

Although a unique design altogether, you may have seen something similar along your path; sitting in a room donned with antiques, being showcased in a museum, or likewise traditional setting.

Our furniture somewhat resembles vintage chairs or pieces perhaps made by Vermont Tubbs in the 1960s or Iverson in the 1980s and other small makers who have been so inspired. The remaining items are held on to by their owners for decades and passed on as family heirlooms.

Welcome the new age of beautiful handcrafted snowshoe furniture. You can call it a comeback.
