Specs & Features

Description

NTCo's wooden snowshoe line is one of our newest. Processed, steam-bent, laced, and dipped all by hand. Our beautiful designs are the product of a thousand years of research and development.

These Green Mountain (or modified) bear paws are almost oval in shape, rounded at both ends with a slight lift to the toe. While our Ojibwa Snowshoes, are ideal for winter trekking and traveling long distances, these snowshoes are preferred for putzing around camp or everyday use at the cabin. Their rounded tips allow for better turning and maneuverability, making them one of our most versatile snowshoes. These are the ideal companion for outdoor work projects, whether your are surveying a toboggan slope, orchard pruning, watching your trap line, or navigating dense brush. In addition, the soft edges on these snowshoes make them popular as expedition spares, carried on the back of a pack or tied to a sled.

Materials: White Ash, Nylon Lacing

Snowshoe Sizing

Roughly match snowshoe size to your body weight plus the weight of any pack.

As a rule, smaller shoes are easier to walk on. If close to a size break, choose larger shoes if you have long legs, wear a hefty pack, regularly break trail or have light, fluffy snow.

Choose smaller shoes for shorter legs, denser snow or packed trails (even if new snow covers the old tracks).

Made to Last a Lifetime

When we are crafting snowshoes we choose materials that offer excellent strength properties and also have great flexibility.

Made from White Ash

Ash wood is a preferred choice for snowshoes, providing strength, shock-absorption and flexibility.

Snowshoe Style

Popular in New England, these snoeshoes are rounded at both ends with a slight lift to the toe. They are great for tight quarters, thick brush, and working on snow. They are a favorite for mountain climbing and fit well on the outside of a frame pack.

Our Traditional Steam Bending

  • We steam bend our snowshoes by hand, in small batches. No chemicals are used in this process.
  • We keep in mind that each piece of wood is unique. Each will bend and flex differently requiring true craftmanship.
  • This steam bending technique has been passed down for generations.
  • Lacing & Finishing

  • Our skilled artisans lace our snowshoes by hand.
  • Each snowshoe is dipped in exterior polyurethane.
  • After multiple coats of finish and plenty of curing time, these snowshoes are ready to be enjoyed for years.
