Description

NTCo's hand-made, traditional wooden snowshoe line is one of our newest. Processed, steam-bent, laced dipped all by hand.

Similar in general shape and function to the Alaskan snowshoe, the Huron's upturned toe and large surface area excel at covering distances over open trail through any depth of snow. These snowshoes have their roots with the Huron people who lived along the Saint Lawrence river in southern Canada and the north eastern United States. They were further developed by French trappers, moving northward to explore and search for wealth. They are an excellent snowshoe for larger people, for carrying large packs, and for anybody looking to explore different traditional styles.

Made to Last a Lifetime

When we are crafting snowshoes we choose materials that offer excellent strength properties and also have great flexibility.

Made from White Ash

Ash wood is a preferred choice for snowshoes, providing strength, shock-absorption and flexibility.

Snowshoe Style

The Ojibwa's "nesting shape" along with it's pointed tail and toe encourage easy and efficient walking.

Our Traditional Steam Bending

  • We steam bend our snowshoes by hand, in small batches. No chemicals are used in this process.
  • We keep in mind that each piece of wood is unique. Each will bend and flex differently requiring true craftmanship.
  • This steam bending technique has been passed down for generations.
  • Lacing & Finishing

  • Our skilled artisans lace our snowshoes by hand.
  • Each snowshoe is dipped in exterior polyurethane.
  • After multiple coats of finish and plenty of curing time, these snowshoes are ready to be enjoyed for years.
