A true customer favorite for trapping, ice fishing, hauling firewood, pulling grand-kids, and general cabin utility. Originally designed for use in the commercial fishing industry of Northern Manitoba, its box is easy to load and able to carry tremendous weight. Made to be pulled behind a snowmobile, this sled is also home behind an ATV or side by side. The metal fasteners have been designed to flex, allowing the sled to follow smoothly behind a machine, without damaging the load. The beautiful bow handle is a creation of our founding Sled Maker and allows for a rider, while its gentle curve deflects trees and branches along narrow trails. Built using our standard of quality, this can be your last towing sled. Steel hitch included.
Description
In the past two centuries, traditional wooden sleds have undergone a gradual evolution. Cargo sleds, most often used for trapping and hunting, became an important part of a growing industry in North America. First with the Klondike Gold rush, then later with the freshwater fishing industry, a new class of working men and women needed more reliable tools and winter gear that were better suited to heavy repeated use.
A type of working man’s snow sleigh, our Box Freight Sled was inspired by the shifting attitudes and shifting needs. This simple design, a sturdy deck, box and runners, are built from the same high quality red oak and stainless steel as all of our other toboggan sleds. The flexible steel runners make it ideal for towing heavy loads, bending and flexing to glide over winding and uneven terrain. Professional users tend to appreciate the uniformity and simplicity of this freighting sled, especially when making repeated trips with the same equipment in tow. Recreational users tend to appreciate the simplicity of the box when compared to other cargo toboggans and sleds. The box allows for easy loading and unloading without the use of straps and ropes. It’s for this reason that the Box Freight is one of most popular products for use as a custom ice fishing sled. In addition, the box can help to protect more delicate tools used for trapping, fishing, or land surveying. As you can probably imagine, it’s also great as a winter camping sled, allowing a rider to follow behind using the elegant oak bow for a handle.

Crafted Responsibly and for a Lifetime
Our Wood Philosophy
- Why red oak? Because of its durability, beauty and natural bending qualities. It was also the preference of the Sled Maker's mentor.
- Our red oak is sourced responsibly and purchased from mills who we have developed partnerships with over the decades. They invest time in hand selecting "toboggan grade” boards for us which is the highest level of grading in the wood industry.
Details Matter
- Stainless steel hardware is used in each toboggan.
- A natural looking finish is achieved through using a linseed oil based coating. This is preferred for its beauty, wood preservative qualities, and historical legacy as an outdoor wood finish.
