This toboggan is designed to be pulled by a single person, much like the original toboggans of North America. Weighing a meager 25 pounds, it glides easily over top of all different snow varieties. The sled profile tapers from the tip to the tail (wider at the front, narrowing to the tail), reducing friction and helping the toboggan to follow more naturally behind a person trekking with snowshoes or skis. Favorite uses for this sled include winter camping, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and general winter trekking, but many of our customers also enjoy having this sled for hauling firewood or other small projects around the house. For millennia, our indigenous predecessors made their way across North America on foot. Our Hand Toboggan helps you continue this timeless tradition of simplicity.
When you’re running a trap line or hot-tenting on the trail for days at a time, you only want to carry the weight you absolutely need. We partnered with winter camping legend, Garrett Conover to design the Hand Toboggan, a winter camping sled and trekking sled inspired by traditional design. The result is a classic wooden toboggan with nothing extra. This towing sled provides all the functionality of a larger model without extra weight or surface area to slow you down on trail.
This is a great pull sled if you are the type of person who enjoys true wilderness solitude away from engines and loud noise. Favorite uses for this toboggan include winter camping, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and general winter trekking. Some of our customers also enjoy having this sled around for more practical purposes like hauling firewood or small building projects around the house. In addition, this light toboggan works well as a rescue sled for ski-patrol and other wilderness professionals
We like to say, it’s one of the best snow sleds for adults, no matter what your idea of winter fun, we’re sure you can find a way to put the hand toboggan to use.
Winter trekking can be daunting for a beginner. But regardless of your experience level, having the right equipment is essential. If you are carrying any gear along with you, a sturdy wooden pull sled is one of the core pieces of gear. Whether you are snowshoeing or cross country skiing, it’s the same now as it was a millennium ago, when our indigenous predecessors made their way across North America on foot. In the far north regions, winter was often the favorite time for traveling long distances. In summertime, soft ground, uneven trails and thick brush allowed only a limited amount of weight to be transported. Soft ground, warm temperatures and swarms of bugs could only have made things more difficult. In the winter things go a lot more smoothly with the help of a toboggan or sled. These simple tools make it easy to trek long distances while carrying heavy supplies. In this way our Hand Toboggan strives to continue this timeless tradition of simplicity and winter travel.
