Downhill toboggans emerged in the early 1800's. These toboggans shared many of the same attributes of freighting toboggans, but are marked by a half-circle curl and often different material, largely ash or maple. The 1800s toboggan is a descendant of that original downhill coasting sled using designs and materials from that time and era. In addition to the wood, we have sourced natural fiber rope and designed a waxed canvas pad to create a historically true design of heirloom quality.
